Aditya Dev or Aditya ‘Romeo’ Dev was the world’s smallest body builder. He was born in Phagwara, Punjab in India on 1st November 1988 and died at the age of 23. He was a dancer, body builder and entertainer with dwarfism. He became famous after being reported in the British press in 2008. He weighed 9 kg but could lift 2 kg dumbbells with his height of less than 3 feet. His head measured 38 cm and chest 51 cm. He worked out and took training for body building with his fiend and trainer Ranjeet Pal. Dev also had his own Bhangra Company and appeared on several local television shows that enhanced his dancing skills.
Unfortunately his smaller stature caused his untimely death. He suffered from aneurysms, which was left untreated and burst causing his death in the year 2012. It is a condition associated with MOPD II, the cause of Dev’s dwarfism or small stature. Before his death he was absolutely fine until he suddenly fell unconscious following which he was hospitalized. He fell into a coma due to a nerve rupture. He had massive bleeding and bran damage and extremely rare chances of survival. He was cremated in his native town in Phagwara, Punjab in a traditional Punjabi Hindu ceremony.
Born as a primordial dwarf he never let his disability come into his way of becoming successful. People from his region remember him as a star. He had a well defined and muscular body for which he worked hard every day. In 2008 he was named in the Guinness Book of World Records in 2008 and started focusing on his entertainment career but was never interested in getting fame or being rich. He wanted to travel extensively and perform with his role model Jazzy-B, an Indian Punjabi artist. Where people are shy and lack confidence for being physically different from what is considered “normal”, Dev was extremely confident and passionate. From weddings to comedy shows, body building competitions to setting records, he accomplished with utmost confidence. He also received a lot of support and encouragement from his family and friends. He had traveled to a few countries outside India for interviews, various shows and competitions.
Romeo used custom built weights and pumped iron daily. He did not have a large head like most of the dwarfs and had a proportionate body. He had a well built stature, triceps, biceps and calves. At his gym large number of people used to come regularly to have a sight of him working out. As a bodybuilder he was trained for more than 2 years and thought of himself as the strongest dwarf in the world. Along with dancing and body building he was a regular at basic gymnastics and aerobics. His trainer is of the opinion that Romeo was the most determined person he has ever come across. The exercises and equipments were also modified so that he doesn’t get hurt. His father is proud of the determination his son had and feels that he would always be the gem of the family.
