Aly Raisman created history on the final day of gymnastic competition at the Olympics, beating the star Gabby Douglas and the star-crossed Jordyn Wieber. The beautiful Aly Raisman leaves London with three medals, the most won by any American gymnast here. She became the first US woman to win Olympic gold on floor on Tuesday after she performed to what she says, is the best floor routine of her life, as she moved to the tune of “Hava Nagila.”
The national team coordinator Martha Karolyi said, “It was an excellent performance. I am quite pleased with this young generation. Medals-wise, I am very pleased. Winning the team gold and all-around gold, the two biggest medals any country can wish for, we are very proud of that fact.” Though the US won six medals overall in gymnastics, it has been two medals lesser than the glorious 8 which the US won four years ago.
The last two days were hard on Gabby Douglas, who has emerged as the smiling face of US women gymnastics, she is the first African merican to have won the coveted all-around. The uneven bars on Monday and balance beam Tuesday had Douglas struggling and she managed to finish last and next to last respectively.”I’m really disappointed in that performance,” Douglas said after slipping on the beam. “It could have been a little better, but mentally I’m tired. But, overall, I’m going home with two gold medals so I’m very happy. It wasn’t my day to shine.” Check out Gabby Douglas performance

The chirpy American gymnast said that the music for her floor routine at the London Olympics 2012 was ‘Hava Nagila’, a tribute to the victims of the 1972 Munich Games terror attack. Hava Nagila the girl said, was a reply to the International Olympic’ Committee’s failure to mark the 40th anniversary of the tragedy. The sons is a traditional one, used for wedding dances and bat mitzvah.
Aly Raisman said that the floor dance music made the gold medal even more special. ‘I can only imagine how painful it must be for the families and close personal friends of the victims,’ said the 18 year old from Needham, Massachusetts.
