The actor who will play Christian Grey in the movie adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey is Charlie Hunnam. Author E.L.James who became a household name for her best-selling book ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ made a formal announcement of the lead hero of the movie adaptation.
Charlie Hunnam may just find himself to be in the top bracket of movie stars by playing the suave, sexy older man’s character that captured the hearts of million women across the globe. The 33 year old British actor, who was born in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England; got his first big break for the US TV show ‘Undeclared’. Then he did little roles in movies like Children of Men and Cold Mountain but it was only in 2008, that he got his big role in the TV show ,’Sons of Anarchy’ where he reprised the role of Jackson ‘Jax’ Teller. The show didn’t too well when it began but over a period of time, it has attained cult status.
Hunnam finally arrived when he was cast in ‘Pacific Rim’ which was hyped well. Unfortunately, the movie did not do well at the US box office, though it did better business overseas. The trade guide shows that 77 percent of its revenues have come from abroad, rather than US.
Charlie Hunnam is now on the verge of becoming a huge movie star with Fifty Shades of Grey franchise. Universal is keeping the budget low, though the books have sold more than 75 million copies with James’ net-worth reaching $95 million between 2012 and 2013.
Fifty Shades of Grey could star Hunnam and Dakota Johnson (daughter of Melannie Griffith) as the 21 year old Anastasia Steele. Considering these stars are not established names, Universal can expect to boost significant profits on the balance sheet if the movie does well. Fifty Shades of Grey is expected to hit the theaters August 2013.
