Google Glass is a high-tech eye wear developed by the search engine giants in its foray into wearable technology.  With the help of this glass, you can take pictures, reply to emails and sat-nav directions. Steve Lee, the product director of Google Glass, told that Google Glass will be shipped to consumers by the end of 2013.  As of now, a few Google employees were already seen wearing the smart glass.

Google Glass comes in five colors as of now — black, gray, blue, red or white and have removable shades. The New York Times has said that Google may team up with Warby Parker, an e-commerce company which already sends stylish eyeglasses to design funky frames.  Designers say that the objective behind Google Glass is to give people a great, unique user-experience which is more stylish and less obtrusive. Google will also be coming out with a set of lenses to convert them into sunglasses.

Uses of Google Glass

This light-weight yet strong piece of technology is quite versatile. You just have to say ‘take a picture’ to click a photo. Just say ‘Okay glass, record a video’ to record a video without using hands-free.

You can share content on social media sites with the help of Google Glass. You have to ‘speak’ to send a message. Ask whatever is on your mind and you will get the answers. The glass will be also designed to answer questions like “How long is the Vincent Thomas Bridge?’ and translate speech into another language. The glass also works as voice translator.  Google Glass will also tell people about the status of their flights, as they walk through the airport.

Google also showed how people can buy Google Glass

  1. The first edition of Google Glass is the Explore edition. They have to say in 50 words or less use Google+ or Twitter and tell what would you do if you had Glass, starting with the hashtag #ifihadglass.
  2. You can also put 5 pictures with the application
  3. You can include a 15 second (max) video
  4. You have to be 18 years of age and be in the US to apply
  5. The last date of application is February 27, 2013

People who pass the test are eligible to buy the pre-order first edition of Google Glass. But they have to personally come in New York, LA or San Francisco to collect it . ‘We’re looking for bold, creative individuals who want to join us and be a part of shaping the future of Glass,’ the firm said. We’d love to make everyone an Explorer, but we’re starting off a bit smaller. ‘We’re still in the early stages, and while we can’t promise everything will be perfect, we can promise it will be exciting.’

The price of Google Glass is $1500 or less.
