Jeremy Goulet, the man who has allegedly killed two Santa Cruz Police Department officers on Tuesday was known to use guns and was considered mentally unstable by some people who knew him. Police Chief Kevin Vogel said Sgt. Loren Butch Baker, a 28-year veteran, and Detective Elizabeth Butler, a 10-year veteran, were the police officers who were shot dead. He said, “There aren’t words to describe this horrific tragedy,” he said. “This is the darkest day in the history of the Santa Cruz police department.”
35 year old Goulet was fired on February 23rd from his job at Kind Grind Coffee Shop, where he worked as a barista. He was accused of sexual harassment from a co-worker and in a fit of rage; shot two Santa Cruz Police department officers who were patrolling the area. Goulet was shot dead by the police in a retaliatory firing in Santa Cruz, a city located 70 miles to the south of San Francisco.
Back in 2008, Jeremy Goulet who was living in Portland, was convicted of a sex offence when he had allegedly shot from his gun, when the boyfriend of a woman, he secretly taped taking a shower, confronted him. He did not have the permit to own or carry the weapon. Danny Thomas, the boyfriend of the victim said, “He shot the gun off a couple of times, and I bit part of his ear off.” Even Jeremy’s father Ronald Goulet told the media that his son was known to be quite interested in guns. But he said that his father was never violent and was not convicted of felony even once. “
Jeremy Goulet reportedly sent a text message on Tuesday afternoon to his twin brother, Jeffrey Goulet, telling him he was in some problem. A woman who did not wish to be identified and who was Goulet’s neighbor said that the man did have ‘some anger issues’ and would get argumentative with his brother often.
