Shark Week presented by Discovery Channel was first aired on July 17, 1998. It is a week long series of TV programs dedicated to sharks. This week is held every year in July or August. The idea is to help people understand these water creatures better.
Shark Week is broadcast over 72 countries and in the last few years has become almost a cult show thanks to high viral promotion in social network sites like Facebook and Twitter.
Shark Week 2012, hosted by Philip DeFranco, commenced on August 12 at 8 PM CST. After being out of public view in 2011, ‘Chompie’ the giant shark is once again open to people at the Discovery Channel building.
