The US open final 2012 will be between Victoria Azarenka and Serena Williams thanks to their thumping victories in the semis. Now the lines are clearly drawn between the current numero uno Victoria Azarenka and the best player of her generation, Williams.
Serena defeated Italian Sara Errani 6-1, 6-2 to continue her golden streak while Azarenka defeated the sensational Maria Sharapova 3-6 6-2 6-4.
Serena Williams has an enviable track record, having won her fifth Wimbledon title in July and then the Olympic singles and doubles at the London Olympics 2012. So without doubt, Serena Williams starts Saturday as the hot favorite to win US Open Final 2012. But will it be easy ?
For the 23 year old Victoria Azarenka it will be quite a challenge to face Williams who said, “It will be up there because if you win the Olympics and Wimbledon and this, it would be kinda cool.” The spunky girl from Belarus has been the most consistent tennis player in the world in 2012 and has won her first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open in January. If we look at the trend, her results against Williams have been far from flattering with Serena willing 9 out of 10 matches.
“She’s the toughest opponent there is in the draw,” said Azarenka. “And being in the final makes it even more difficult so it’s definitely gonna be a tough one.” Though Sharapova lost to Azarenka, she has a few words for the finalist, “No matter who is going in there as the favourite, no matter how confident they are, everyone has a chance. She’s number one in the world and there is no reason why she shouldn’t have a chance.”
William has had an enviable career wining her first US Open title in 1999 at a young age of 17 and now if she wins US Open Title 2012, she will be the oldest woman to win US Open since the victory of Margaret Triumph in 1973. Serena Williams turns 31 September 21, 2012.
Victoria Azarenka born July 31, 1989 moved to Scottsdale, Arizona from Minsk at the age of 16 to pursue her sports career. Her mother’s friend was the wife of Nikolai Khabibulin (National Hockey League goalie); the couple helped the young girl train for tennis. In fact in 2012, Victoria considered taking a break from tennis to focus on her studies, but her grandmother advised her to pursue her passion, the girl decided to focus more on tennis.
Victoria Azarenka’s boyfriend is Sergei Bubka Jr. son of pole vaulter Sergey Bubka. Sergei Sergeevich Bubka is a Ukranian professional tennis player.
